Samsung mobile sales reach all-time high in Q3
In its recent third-quarter earnings report, Samsung said its�telecommunications�business achieved record quarterly sales of 14.90 trillion won, up 37% from the same period last year. The unit shipped 27.9 million smartphones during the period, 10 million more than Apple shipped during the same quarter, pushing Samsung�into the top smartphone spot globally. Sprint, Cleawire near deal for 3-5 year network-sharing agreement, report claims
Sprint and Clearwire are close to inking a deal that will�extend an existing network-sharing agreement an additional 3-5 years, Bloomberg Businessweek said Friday. The current agreement will terminate at the end of 2012. Allegedly, the deal is not final and could still fall through. If it is finalized, Sprint is poised to pay less for access to Clearwire’s network than it currently does. Clearwire has been seeking additional funding to help it build out a 4G LTE network, which is expected to cost $600 million, but Sprint will not provide any of the financing. “This would likely help [Clearwire] get funding, because it would provide increased visibility into revenue-getting opportunities and reduce the risk profile,” Mizuho Securities analyst Michael Nelson

Redbox ups daily DVD rental fee to $1.20
Following parent company Coinstar’s third-quarter earnings report, Redbox announced that daily DVD rental fees have increased to $1.20 from $1. “The price change is based on an increase in operating costs, including higher debit card fees that went into effect October 1,” Redbox said in a statement on its website. “This is the first time in eight years Redbox has raised our daily DVD rental price.”�Redbox will continue to charge $1 for the first day of each DVD rental during a promotional period from October 31st through November 30th, though additional days will be charged at the new rate of $1.20 per night. Sprint says iPhone deal is worth $15.5 billion
Sprint on Wednesday stated that it has entered into a four-year deal valued at $15.5 billion to offer Apple’s iPhone line of handsets, the GSMA’s mobile business blog reports. BlackBerry Bold 9790 due in late November with redesigned buttons; OS 7.1 later this year
We’ve just heard from a tipster that the BlackBerry Bold 9790 ? think of the BlackBerry 9900 and mash that up with the BlackBerry 9700 ? will be launching around the end of November. The device will feature a 2.45-inch 640 x 480-pixel VGA touch display, 8GB of built-in storage and of course, a full QWERTY keyboard. New here is the redesigned (hideous) menu buttons a la BlackBerry Torch 9850. The device was incredibly clean before, but the new buttons ruin it for us. RIM also made the same move with the BlackBerry 9850 before it was released, changing the design from flush buttons to individual physical keys. Sprint issues security fix for HTC phones
Sprint on Tuesday confirmed that it has released an over-the-air security update for several HTC smartphones. In a statement posted to Sprint’s community forum by company spokesman Mark Elliot, Sprint said HTC smartphones including the�HTC EVO 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Shift 4G, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC EVO View 4G and HTC Wildfire S will all begin receiving the update this evening. “Sprint worked closely with HTC after reports emerged of a potential issue that could allow malicious third-party apps to compromise data on Android devices made by HTC,” the statement said, noting that users of the aforementioned smartphone models should install the update promptly. Siri co-founder Dag Kittlaus has left Apple, AllThingsD reported on Monday. Kittlaus is said to have moved to Chicago to spend time with his family and to take time off from working. Verizon 4G LTE rolling out ahead of schedule, more than 186 million Americans covered
Verizon Wireless announced on Monday that its 4G LTE network is rolling out faster than originally planned. The carrier provides 4G access to more than 186 million Americans, which means it has already exceeded its goal to cover 185 million U.S. residents by the end of the year. Verizon Wireless confirmed it will roll out 4G LTE to 13 more markets on November 17th, for a total of 178 markets, and said it will continue to activate its 4G network in new cities in December. Apple Poaches Yahoo Data Center Guru
As first reported by GigaOM, Scott Noteboom, who has served as Yahoo's head of Global Data Center Infrastructure since joining the company in 2005, has found a new gig. At Apple. According to his LinkedIn profile, Noteboom train-hopped to Cupertino earlier this month.
